About You

You must:

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia
  • Successfully complete Year 12 at a Queensland state or non-state school in 2022
  • Obtain an ATAR of 88.75 or higher
  • Commence or continue an initial teacher education (ITE) program at a Queensland Higher Education Institution in Semester 1, 2023 on a full-time basis.

Note: Students who have completed school and have taken a gap year remain eligible after one gap year only. They should apply for the grant in the following year's application process, to commence an ITE program in the year after. For example:

  • students who completed school in 2021 can apply now to commence in Semester 1, 2023.
  • students who completed school in 2022 will need to apply at the end of 2023 to commence in Semester 1, 2024.

Rural or Remote applications

Eligible rural and remote applicants are those whose family residential address whilst they were completing Year 12 falls within the catchment of a Queensland (state) school with a transfer rating* of TR3-TR7 as per the Department of Education Schools Directory.

Rural and remote applicants can also submit an application for the general category, however, applicants can only be successful in one category.

Priority selection will be given to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students and students who reside in a drought declared Local Government area.
