The Department of Education is currently seeking applications from aspiring teachers who have completed an undergraduate degree in any other field other than teaching/education to join the 2025 intake of the Turn to Teaching Internship Program (TTT Program). Successful applicants will be provided with financial support while they complete their post-graduate studies in Initial Teacher Education and a paid teaching internship.

Benefits: Successful applicants will receive a pre-tax scholarship payment of $20,000 (over 4 instalments) in their first year of full-time Initial Teacher Education study and a paid internship in a QLD State School (25 hours a fortnight) while completing their second year of study part-time. The internship attracts a full-time teacher salary with a support network including a supervising and mentor teacher and access to a Community of Practice to share experiences.

Eligibility:
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree (minimum 3-year Bachelor) in a field other than education/teaching and meet the requirements of one of the following categories:

  • Individuals who have not previously commenced an initial teacher education (ITE) program and are:
    • eligible to enrol in and commence an approved ITE program (e.g., Master of Teaching) in Semester / Trimester 1 2025, at a partnering HEI/university
  • Individuals that have previously commenced but not completed an ITE Program as follows:
    • Individuals who have commenced an ITE Program and are not eligible for any recognised prior learning from a partnering HEI (usually commenced ITE program 10+ years prior).
    • Individuals who have completed a maximum of 2 courses / units only (maximum 24CP) of an ITE program (e.g. Master of Teaching) with a partnering HEI and are eligible to continue enrolment or qualify to re-enrol for commencement in Semester / Trimester 1 2025 (please note that academic transcript must be included in your application).

Applicants must also be:

  • eligible for enrolment in one of the following, for 2025 intake:
    • Griffith University: Master of Primary or Secondary Teaching 
    • University of Southern QLD: Master of Learning and Teaching (Primary or Secondary)
    • QLD University of Technology; Master of Teaching (Primary or Secondary)
    • University of Sunshine Coast; Master of Teaching (Secondary)
    • Southern Cross University; Master of Teaching (Primary or Secondary)
    • Australian Catholic University; Master of Teaching (Secondary)
    • University of QLD; Master of Teaching (Primary or Secondary)
  • willing to commence full time study in trimester/semester 1, 2025 and be able to successfully complete a year of full time study in Year 1 of the TTT program
  • willing to undertake an internship in 2026 at any state school located within a priority region of QLD*; demonstrate commitment to teach an in-demand subject area including the secondary subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Technologies, or within a Special Education setting
  • able to commit to a permanent teaching position in a priority region of QLD upon completion of the TTT Program for 2–3 years;
  • an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia.

Those who specialise in other subject areas not listed above may apply, however, preference will be given to those who will be able to teach the in-demand subject / curriculum areas. Please note: The high demand subject / curriculum areas listed are subject to change, depending on the department's workforce needs.

* Applicants who complete their internship and commit to a permanent teaching position upon completion of the TTT Program for 2–3 years, in a priority region of QLD will be prioritised during the selection process. Priority regions include Central QLD, Darling Downs South West, Far North QLD or North QLD.

Program offers
Successful applicants will receive a conditional offer of placement until evidence of acceptance of enrolment into the relevant post-graduate ITE program at a participating HEI and confirmation of approved Teaching Areas is provided.

Permanent employment will be offered upon completion of your ITE course and the TTT Program, confirmation of provisional registration with the QLD College of Teachers (QCT) and meeting all departmental minimum requirements for employment. Please refer to the Fact Sheet and note the Terms and Conditions of accepting an offer for this program.

Funds will be deposited in 4 instalments into the recipients' bank account. All payments are taxed and may affect the recipient's annual income and/or benefits received. It is recommended that financial advice is obtained from a financial advisor, the ATO and/or Services Australia.
