A range of Principal positions in the Darling Downs South West (DDSW) Region may be available for relieving opportunities during 2024. Duration may vary and is dependent upon individual school circumstances. The DDSW region is situated in the South Western corner of Queensland. The region covers schools located in the Lockyer Valley approximately 70km west of Brisbane, stretching west to Eromanga 1060km west of Brisbane and the furthest town in Australia from the sea.

Our region has one Regional Director and an Executive Director, Regional Operations, one Senior Principal Capability, Education Futures Institute, and 5 Regional School Supervisors, supervising 199 schools. These schools vary in size and locality, from small rural schools with less than 10 students, to urban secondary schools catering for over 1700 students.

This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and any extensions to this appointment will not exceed 12 months.

This continuous applicant pool is open for candidates interested in employment opportunities as a Principal and meet the mandatory employment requirements as detailed in the attached role descriptions. It is recommended that prospective applicants for this advertisement discuss with their current supervisor support for the application, capacity to release and that the classification level/s nominated are appropriate.

Applications will be reviewed and considered throughout 2024, if and when Principal vacancies are identified. The submission of an application to this applicant pool does not guarantee an offer of employment or an application assessment response from the region. The positions may range in duration up to a school semester.

The region will utilise this EOI pool for short term vacancies of up to 10 weeks duration. When considered appropriate, and for longer term vacancies, the region may also elect to progress a separate EOI or temporary advertisement, which will be available through Smart Jobs. Requests for relocation expenses/incentives may be discussed with suitable applicants on an individual, case by case basis in alignment with relevant directives.

State Schools Division is responsible for ensuring that every day, in every lesson, every student in state schooling is learning and achieving within a safe, supportive, inclusive and disciplined learning environment and supported by strong governance and efficient business operations. State Schools Division develops the strategic direction for state schools, supported by operational policies and ensuring their implementation in regions and schools. As the Principal, you will play a vital role in:

  • delivering the vision of the department
  • improving the educational outcomes of students in their schools
  • developing the quality of teaching and learning
  • nurturing positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:
1. Demonstrated leadership of a curriculum, teaching and learning environment, leading to the achievement of quality learning outcomes for all students.
2. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to develop and sustain productive relationships within and beyond the school community.
