We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and innovative individual to join the team at Darling Downs South West as the Principal Human Resources Consultant of Norfolk Island Central School. The successful applicant will demonstrate high level experience in providing human resource management services including workforce management strategies, recruitment and selection, industrial relations, organisational health services, change management strategies and school workforce management issues.

From 2022, Queensland Department of Education commenced delivery of educational services on Norfolk Island on behalf of the Australian Government. Since this time there has been a staggered transition for both teaching and support staff, with both cohorts now employed by the Department of Education Queensland.

About the School

Norfolk Island Central School is located on Norfolk Island, approximately 1400km east of Byron Bay in the South Pacific. The school is funded by the Commonwealth of Australia and has operated as a NSW Department of Education school up until the Queensland Department of Education commences delivery of educational services from 2022. There has been a high-quality delivery of educational services for students in K-12 (300).

Your Opportunity!

This opportunity will support the Director of Human Resources and the school leadership team in the department's operational processes and systems for Norfolk Island Central School.

As the Principal Human Resources Consultant, you will have responsibility for the following:

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor, plan and lead work and/or project teams dedicated to assisting schools in achieving organisational goalsthrough improved use of resources and human resource management practices.
  • As a member of the regional and human resource program's senior management team, contribute to changeand relational management processes in the region.
  • Establish effective internal partnerships to deliver quality services.
  • Commission or conduct reviews of human resource services programs and functions.
  • Develop creative solutions to assist schools with workforce plans that support their core business and meet thechanging needs of students and the community.
  • Assist schools in the development of workforce plans, structures and processes that address workplace healthand safety.
  • Identify and address emerging high-level human resource management policy issues that are accepted by keystakeholders and support departmental strategic objectives and priorities.
  • Develop and support local consultancies across the region to assist in building school and community capacity and provide schools with a range of human resource management services and professional advice.
  • Refer staff for employee counselling and other employee support services.
  • Case manage employees with medical concerns including rehabilitation and return to work programs and ill health retirement options.
  • Support and advise schools in relation to performance management, complaints and grievance investigations, facilitating alternative conflict resolution strategies and make recommendations with outcomes that may include disciplinary action.
