The role supports Hospital and Health Services in navigating complex clinical, ethical, and medico-legal matters, while working closely with multidisciplinary Chief Officers to drive workforce reform aligned with key strategic priorities. Representing Queensland Health at both State and National levels, the position fosters partnerships with universities, professional colleges, and industrial stakeholders to strengthen medical education and training models. It also anticipates and responds to emerging health policy developments, ensuring alignment with future workforce needs, and plays a key role in advancing clinical governance. Additionally, the role oversees the interpretation of relevant legislation, including the Medicines and Poisons Act, and acts as the Senior Responsible Officer under the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act. A strong commitment to research, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement is essential to support the delivery of a high-quality, safe, and future-focused healthcare system across Queensland.

The successful person
The successful candidate will hold a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a registered tertiary institution and be a Fellow of an Australian Medical Specialist College. They must have unrestricted general and specialist registration with AHPRA and ideally maintain an active clinical role. A minimum of five years' senior healthcare leadership experience is highly regarded. Experience in clinical trials and translational research, including knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and the Australian Code for Responsible Conduct of Research, would be advantageous. Previous involvement in policy consultation, development, and implementation is also beneficial. The role requires demonstrated strategic clinical leadership, multidisciplinary team management, and a strong understanding of clinical risk assessment and governance. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential for engaging diverse stakeholders effectively. The successful applicant will exhibit leadership behaviours that include strategic thinking, fostering innovation, building enduring relationships, and upholding sound governance and risk management practices.
