The role:
Reporting to the Technical Delivery Manager, the Principal Technical Specialist will play a lead role in the implementation and management of the Queensland Health's Check Point and equivalent enterprise grade firewall replacements and upgrades for the Cyber Security Program. This role will provide technical implementation skills, analysis, and expert advice on firewall infrastructure, including associated tools for management, monitoring, and automation, ensuring optimal performance, compliance, and security.
As the Principle Technical Specialist, your duties will include:
- Lead and manage the build, configuration and implementation of new Check Point and equivalent enterprise grade firewalls, including F5 load balancers by working closely with project and BAU teams to transition new Gateways capability into operations.
- Ensure compliance and optimal performance of enterprise service levels by managing and performing the dissemination and implementation of policies, processes and standards for technical configuration of the firewall infrastructure.
- Provide subject matter expertise regarding checkpoint firewall support including troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Contribute expert advice and analysis on current and future security requirements.
- Provide comprehensive support during planned ICT changes and updates, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum security.
- Provide high level research and advice regarding emerging technologies to enhance the effectiveness of system design, management and support.
- Manage and contribute to the development, publication, implementation and compliance to technical policies, standards and procedures at an enterprise level
- Provide third level support and technical leadership across the branch
- Maintain and manage effective working relationships and engage with third parties that provide technical support for the enterprise infrastructure.
- Provide high-quality technical analysis, including documentation of upgrade strategies and options papers, with demonstrated writing skills for large-scale enterprises

- Demonstrated ability to participate in a highly skilled technical team providing high-level technical direction, standardisation and support of enterprise infrastructure in a large customer focused organisation. (SFIA Code: ARCH5) (NHS: Leading Change through People)
- Proven high level understanding and working knowledge of relevant technical domains (SFIA Code: TECH 5)
- Checkpoint Firewalls, Smart Consoles and Firewall Management Architectures – Replacements and new infrastructure deployments
- F5 Load Balancers
- Security Networking technologies across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments,
- Gateway Technologies such as Proxies and Secure Web Gateways
- Monitoring, managing, and automating the above security platforms.
- Demonstrated high level analytical, conceptual and problem management skills with a proven record in the assessment and evaluation of technical requirements within a complex information and communication technology environment.
- Demonstrated experience in promoting and ensuring the use of appropriate techniques, within the technology sphere to provide third level support (SFIA Code: ARCH 5; METL 5; DESN 5)
- Proven ability to manage and contribute to the development, publication, implementation and compliance to technical policies, standards and procedures at an enterprise level. (SFIA Code: CNSL 5: EMRG 5, QUST 4; CORE 3; QUAS 5)
- Demonstrated ability or the ability to quickly learn ServiceNow and ITIL Service Management processes, primarily incident/problem/change/configuration management). (SFIA Code: PBMG 5; CHMG 5; CFMG 5)
