LOCATION PROFILE

Did you know the average daily commute time in Brisbane is approximately 67 minutes?   In that same amount of time you could drive from Cairns city to Innisfail in the south or Port Douglas in the north!

Housing is very affordable in Far North Queensland where the median house price in Cairns is around $432,000, Innisfail is $290,000, Tully $215,000 and across the Tablelands $350,000. The average weekly rent for a house is around $420p/wk in Cairns, $275p/wk in Innisfail, $320p/wk in Tully and $330p/wk in the Tablelands.

If an overseas adventure is on your mind, you'll be pleased to know that Cairns is home to the region's international airport with regular direct flights to exciting international destinations including Japan, Singapore, China, Bali and even New Zealand.

REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS

All Queensland State Schools are allocated a transfer rating which is determined by the remoteness or distance of the location from a major city and services. While the base salary range for teachers is the same across the state; rural, remote and even regional locations provide additional financial benefits and incentives that are above and beyond the base salary.

Some locations also attract additional benefits including access to subsidised departmental accommodation, additional leave in the summer vacation period and the support of a dedicated team of professionals from our Centre for Learning and Wellbeing (CLaW).

If you are an experienced teacher, you can apply to have prior teaching service recognised for salary classification and if applicable your service and leave records recognised in line with the Public Service Directive.

RELOCATION ASSISTANCE

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

The FNQ Teacher Learning Centre (TLC) was established to enhance support for preservice, beginning and early career teachers during their teaching journey. Learn more about the support available for beginning teachers HERE.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants for this position must possess or be eligible for:
  • A relevant teaching qualification. CLICK HERE for further information
  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland. Pre-service/graduate teachers must have been granted provisional registration prior to commencing employment as a teacher. For more information regarding registration requirements, please CLICK HERE.
  • In addition to registration, teachers working in Education and Care Services (including State Delivered Kindergarten programs) require an exemption card issued by Blue Card Services. For more information on blue cards and exemption cards, please CLICK HERE.
