We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Principal to lead Woree State High School in delivering a clear, inspiring vision while driving improvements in student outcomes.
The leadership role of Principal is critical to improving the educational outcomes of students in their schools. The Principal has a major influence on developing the quality of teaching and learning and nurturing positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders.
This role is offered on a full-time temporary basis, for a period of 6 months until 12 December 2025, unless otherwise determined.

About the School
Woree State High School is a modern secondary high school located in Cairns. The school has a population of approximately 800 students and provides a more personal and individual approach for all students, whilst maintaining the full range of curriculum offerings.
Woree State High School has provided an excellent education to the students of southern Cairns since its inception in 1985. The school has a tradition of excellence in academic achievement, vocational training, sport, the arts and community engagement.
As the Principal, you will deliver the vision of the department, improve educational outcomes for students, develop the quality of teaching and learning, and foster positive relationships among students, staff, the community, and stakeholders.
Temporary period from 11 August 2025 until 12 December 2025, unless otherwise determined.
Your Opportunity
As the Principal you will:
- Deliver the vision of the department.
- Improve the educational outcomes of students in their schools.
- Develop the quality of teaching and learning.
- Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders.
The Principal reports to the School Supervisor.
Your Responsibilities
As the Principal, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the school community to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on
- providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Uphold the principalship as a values based, ethical and moral activity.
- Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
- Set high standards for student and staff performance.
- Active participants in life long learning and ongoing professional development.
- Form partnerships with parents, other government agencies, community groups, industry and business.
