Suitably qualified applicants are invited to express their interest in short-term temporary and relieving Guidance Officer opportunities across the Far North Queensland Region.

This continuous applicant pool is open to candidates who meet the mandatory requirements outlined in the attached role description.

Vacancies may be filled for periods of up to six months.
Applications will be reviewed throughout 2026 as needs arise.

This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and any extensions to this appointment will not exceed 12 months.

About the Guidance Officer role

You will have responsibility for the following,

  • Provide counselling, psychoeducational assessment, and individual student support, addressing educational, behavioural, career, mental health, and family issues. Advocate for students and offer recommendations to teachers and parents.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and build partnerships with parents, staff, and external agencies to enhance student engagement, access to programs, and holistic support.
  • Assist students in decision-making for education, social-emotional development, and career pathways, providing ongoing guidance during implementation.
  • Conduct observations and assessments to identify learning difficulties, disabilities, or emotional needs, recommending educational adjustments and interventions.
  • Support student protection, gifted and talented programs, behaviour policies, risk management, and develop individualised student plans, including SET planning.
  • Provide specialised support during critical incidents, emergencies, and student transitions into alternative education programs and reintegration into mainstream schooling.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional records in line with policy and legal requirements; participate in professional development to strengthen skills and support for staff, parents, and students.
