Western Cape College is seeking a dedicated and collaborative leader to join the Weipa Secondary Campus leadership team as Head of Department - Physical Education / The Arts.
This temporary opportunity is available for Semester 2, 2026 until the end of the
school year, with the possibility of extension.
This key leadership role will oversee curriculum delivery across Health and Physical Education, The Arts and associated VET certificate courses, while supporting high-quality teaching, student engagement and positive outcomes aligned to the College’s vision
and values.
The successful applicant will work closely with staff and students to lead programs, build capability and contribute to a positive and connected secondary campus culture.

Your opportunity
As the Head of Department (HPE and The Arts), you will play a vital role in developing the quality of teaching and learning, development of a positive culture within the Weipa Secondary Campus and developing solid strategic practices for managing resources to achieve positive student learning outcomes.
The successful candidate will
-
- have a strong knowledge of, and capacity to lead the implementation of both the Australian Curriculum and the QCAA curriculum in The Arts, Health and Physical Education.
- lead the implementation of several Vocational Education & Training certificates courses.
- an ability to build and sustain productive relationships with all stakeholders is vital.
You will have responsibility for (but not limited to) the following
- Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
- Set high standards for student and staff performance.
- Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
- Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
- Be futures oriented and strategic.
