An opportunity has become available for a Clinical Nurse Consultant (Medical Assessment Unit) to join Gold Coast Health where the focus of our 9000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to over 550,000 people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region.
You will take responsibility for
- Demonstrating an expert level of knowledge of contemporary nursing practice, applying theory to practice in delivery of direct and indirect clinical care, and the ability to apply relevant legislation, guidelines and standards and ensure high level clinical practice
- Integrating and operationalising key objectives and strategies for a work based culture that promotes and supports education, learning, research and workforce development
- Coordinate day to day running of the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) after hours including human resources, rostering, and staff performance management
- Screening suitable medical patients for admission and transfer to the MAU, utilising available Information Technology (IT) platforms such as Emergency Department Information Systems (EDIS)/FirstNet and ensuring open communication with senior nursing and medical staff within the Emergency Department and Patient Flow Unit is maintained
- Striving to meet key performance indicators relating to MAU and Emergency Departments
Requirements for the role
- It is a condition of employment in this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough) and hepatitis B
- A Bachelor of Nursing or Midwifery or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Experience in senior nursing positions within a relevant specialty is highly desirable

Salary information
- Permanent part time (64 hrs p.f.)
- Base salary ranging from $55.72 - $60.50 per hour
- Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
- 17.5% leave loading

About the Unit
The MAU provides rapid assessment of internal medical patients presenting to the Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) Emergency Department by the General Internal Medical team. This model limits unnecessary investigations and circumventing multiple internal referrals to inpatient medical teams by providing early assessment and review by senior clinicians.
