An opportunity has become available for a Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist (Complex Management Unit - Rehabilitation or Geriatric Medicine) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10,000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

About the role

Provide clinical care and assist in discharge planning to a complex patient cohort characterized by multiple medical co-morbidities, functional impairments and psychosocial limitations, who require multidisciplinary support and intervention in order to be successfully discharged back to the community.

Provide medical leadership and contribution to the multidisciplinary team to ensure delivery of safe and appropriate patient care. Provide professional leadership within a specialist medical discipline and provide training, supervision and education to junior medical staff and other health care professionals.

Provide support to the Complex Management Unit inpatient service, making a substantial contribution to the development of a culture of medical education and safe, effective patient centered clinical practice.

Requirements for the role

  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B.
  • Tuberculosis screening - to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required.
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
  • MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) in one of the following areas:
    • Rehabilitation Medicine - FAFRM or equivalent acceptable to the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
    • Geriatric Medicine - FRACP or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
  • Relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Strong clinical and teaching experience in Rehabilitation Medicine with specialist practice involving coordinating complex discharge plans.
  • While not mandatory, training/qualifications/experience in Botulinum Toxin injection and the refilling of Intrathecal Baclofen pumps would be well regarded.
  • The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours and on-call roster for the Rehabilitation Department.

Salary information

  • Temporary part time (56-64 hours per fortnight, up to 12 month contract)
  • Senior Staff Specialist: Base hourly rate from $120.51 - $127.77 p.h
  • Staff Specialist: Base hourly rate from $100.78 - $117.06 p.h
  • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
