The primary focus of this role is to deliver high level social work services as a member of a multidisciplinary team to young people (12-18 years) experiencing a moderate to severe substance use disorder and/or complicated by other mental health concerns to optimise psychosocial outcomes and achieve maximum benefit from hospital and health care services.

The Role
An opportunity has become available for a Social Worker - Senior (Mental Health - Youth Alcohol and Other Drugs) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 12 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.
You will
- Apply specialised knowledge of Alcohol and Other Drug frameworks of comprehensive care and treatment services, policies and procedures with a focus on the skills and practices working with young people
- Provide evidenced based high-level youth, family and carer engagement, biopsychosocial assessment, risk management, advocacy, individual and group based social work interventions
- Have strong understanding of evidence based clinical practice with young people including but not limited to, knowledge of lifespan and development, emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills
- Apply high level professional judgement and decision making to resolve a complex caseload, adapting routine clinical practice based on valid and reliable clinical evidence with minimal direct clinical practice supervision
About you
To be successful in this position you will require:
- A tertiary degree in Social Work
- Eligible for membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Driver Licence
- Blue card / Working with children check (GCH will cover cost)
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
- Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

- Base salary ranging from $128 169 - $137 918 per annum

The Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (AODS) is a free, confidential and voluntary service provided by Gold Coast Health. Our service is available to young people from aged 12 to 18 years and their families who live in the Gold Coast region. Our clinics offer multi-disciplinary teams who are experienced in understanding and working with young people who have substance misuse problems.
