About us:

Gladstone Hospital is at present a regional hospital with a total capacity of 100 beds and treatment spaces, offering a range of general and specialist inpatient and outpatient services including emergency, general medicine and surgery, basic orthopaedic, clinical investigation, obstetrics, maternity, gynaecology, high dependency and coronary care, palliative care, medical imaging, pathology, and paediatrics. Additional services include Mental Health, Alcohol and other Drugs Service, oral health, physiotherapy, dietetics, speech pathology and outreach/community-based facilities, as well as a Primary Health Care Centre located at Boyne Valley.

About the role:

Assist the Director of Surgery and Gladstone Hospital, in ensuring that Surgical services provided by CQ Health are of the highest standard and delivered in a reliable and cost-effective manner given available resources. The role entails management of acute and elective surgical conditions both in adults and children. The candidate should have a strong interest, and demonstrated expertise, in Breast and oncoplastic reconstructive surgery and upper and lower endoscopy, as part of their General Surgical Scope of Practice. The successful candidate will assist with the education and supervision of surgical trainees at PHO, RMO and intern level, of medical students and of other medical staff.

About you:

  • MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
    • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Specialist in General Surgery with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority (AHPRA). In general, this will require Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in the specialty of General Surgery.
    • Accreditation by Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) in upper and lower GI endoscopy is essential.
    • Expertise in Laparoscopic Surgery is essential.
    • Enrolment and maintenance of ongoing CPD program with the appropriate bodies.
  • Expertise in Breast surgery and oncoplastic reconstruction is highly desirable.

Salary information:

Total remuneration value of up to $280,001 p.a. is comprised of:

  • A salary rate between $195,018 - $213,052 p.a. (VS.01-VS.04)
  • A salary rate of $231,098 p.a. (VSS.01)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
