Children's Health Queensland provides services from key locations in the Brisbane metropolitan area and works with the 15 other hospital and health services as well as NGOs and charity partners in Queensland to deliver an integrated network of healthcare services and support across the state.

Your Opportunity:

The position of Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) for cardiac surgery is a state-wide role responsible and accountable in providing clinical leadership and individualised case management to children requiring cardiothoracic surgical interventions.  

The cardiac surgical nursing team, in conjunction with medical and allied health teams, are responsible for supporting children and their families from time of referral to the service, through to post discharge from hospital. The CNC leads the service and nursing team in the provision of all pre-operative planning, co-ordination of the inpatient stay and post-operative care (around two weeks post discharge). The primary cardiology team once again take over the leadership of care at the time the patient is discharged from the service.

The purpose of this role is to provide clinical expertise and consultancy through advanced clinical leadership relevant to the speciality of paediatric cardiothoracic surgery. The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) provides direct and indirect care as required and works in collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager, Nurse Educator and wider health care team support the clinical unit in provision of safe quality healthcare through exemplary clinical nursing standards of practice for the specialty of paediatric cardiothoracic surgery.
