Lawyer (Mental Health Review Tribunal)


As a lawyer, you will prepare cases, advocate for your clients and provide advice about criminal law matters. You will have the chance to expand on your experience by undertaking interesting and varied casework in a wide range of criminal law and related matters. This recruitment process will be used to create a merit pool for appointments to the Mental Health Review Tribunal team based in Brisbane.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Represent clients, including preparing matters, instructing counsel and personally appearing for:

(a) accused persons in all general criminal law matters, particularly in the Magistrates Court but also District Court sentences; and

(b) clients appearing before specific courts, including the Court of Appeal, the Mental Health Court, Mental Health Review Tribunal, the Children's Courts, and other related jurisdictions; and

(c) legally aided parties in coronial and proceeds of crime/confiscation proceedings.

(d) Respondents to applications by the Attorney-General under the Dangerous Prisoners (Sexual Offenders) Act 2003. Prisoners (Sexual Offenders) Act 2003.

  • Provide legal information and advice to clients and the public.
