Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
The Midwifery cadet performs a range of midwifery support activities and on the job skills development while engaged in formal full-time tertiary studies necessary to acquire an entry level (mandatory) qualification for employment.
Cadets are employed as a temporary part time employee to gain experience during their 12 weeks of work placement which is scheduled to fit around their full-time study commitments during the calendar year.
Your key responsibilities
- Successfully complete (pass) all academic and practical requirements of their tertiary study while employed as a cadet.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Schedule 2, Nurses and Midwives (Queensland Health Award) (2015) – Generic Level Statements Nurse Grade 1 Band 1 and the Queensland Health and Metro North Health commitments and values, in achievement of the organisational goals and Domains of Practice.
- Assist in the provision of nursing and midwifery team support and undertake delegated actions in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Decision Making Framework.
- Respond appropriately and report sudden alterations in the health status of the consumer/person to the Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife.
- Function in accordance with legislation when undertaking activities as delegated to provide an environment and care that is safe and relevant for individuals and groups.
- Contribute to the effective functioning of the ward/unit in the provision of safe quality care.
