An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and passionate educator to join the leadership team at Ferny Hills State School as the Head of Special Education Services on a permanent full-time basis.

As a key member of the leadership team, the Head of Special Education Services plays a critical role in shaping and promoting an inclusive school culture by ensuring that all students receive equitable and high-quality educational opportunities in alignment with the Queensland Department of Education’s Equity and Excellence strategy.

Your Responsibilities 

As the Head of Special Education Services, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:  

  • Manage and coordinate the delivery of high-quality advice and support provided by the Special Education Program and/or Early Childhood Development Program.
  • Lead and manage the Special Education Program and/or Early Childhood Development Program to provide advice to classroom teachers for students with disability as needed.
  • Provide high quality advice to the school leadership team, classroom teachers and other school staff to develop, plan and implement effective reasonable adjustments for students with disability.
  • Coordinate and provide intensive targeted teaching for students requiring intervention. 

About You

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience, which are desirable but not mandatory:

  • Proven expertise in supporting diverse learners, with demonstrated teaching excellence that leads to improved engagement, participation, and learning outcomes for students with a broad range of abilities and needs.
  • Demonstrated curriculum leadership, with the ability to design, implement and monitor inclusive practices that support the achievement of high-quality outcomes for all students.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with students, staff, families, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and resource management skills, with the capacity to strategically allocate and manage staff, time, and resources to support the delivery of high-quality inclusive education.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and evidence to inform decision-making, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to strategic school planning.
