About the school

BYETC is a Department of Education school operating within the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol (approximately 35 minutes from the CBD). The school plays an important role in the community by providing young people in detention with opportunities to gain knowledge, skills, and values that enhance their capacity to pursue positive choices in the future. BYETC operates in a multi-agency environment and the school is supported by staff from a range of other government departments especially Youth Justice and Queensland Health personnel. BYETC offers a supportive learning environment for students with a focus on improving literacy, numeracy, vocational and personal skills.

About the Role

Reporting to the Deputy Principal (HR) the successful candidate will be responsible for managing human resource functions at the Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre and West Moreton Education and Training Centre. The Human Resources Business Manager is a key member of the school's corporate team which also includes finance and school operations staff. A key component of the role is supporting the school to maintain operations for 48 weeks of the year.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing human resource activities (e.g. recruitment, induction, training, vacancy processing, performance management, workforce planning, and rehabilitation processes).
  • Providing strategic advice and managing the delivery of corporate services in line with departmental policies.
  • Fostering a positive team culture and engaging with internal and external stakeholders to support school operations.
  • Provide strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering quality results and driving continuous improvement.
