We’re seeking a proactive and dedicated Workplace Health and Safety Coordinator to join our school teams as a trusted advisor and champion of all things health, safety, and wellbeing, working closely with school leadership to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all. Reporting directly to the leadership team, you’ll take your lead from them, aligning your work with their vision and priorities. Together, you’ll create a culture where safety and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do.

We are offering exciting Permanent & Temporary full-time and part-time opportunities for Workplace Health and Safety Coordinators (AO5) to support a cluster of various schools (Secondary and Primary) across the Metropolitan South region.

School Cluster 1:
- Stretton State College (1.0 FTE) - Temporary Full-time until March 2027 unless otherwise determined
School Cluster 2:
- Glenala State High School (0.5 FTE)
- Forest Lake State High School (0.5 FTE)
School Cluster 3:
- Brassall State School (0.2 FTE)
- Ipswich North State School (0.2 FTE)
- Collingwood Park State School (0.1 FTE)

Here's what you'll be doing:
🔥 Be the Principal's Right Hand for Safety:
- Provide expert advice to the Principal, school leaders, and staff, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge to create safe and supportive environments
- Collaborate with regional and corporate teams to strengthen local practices and ensure compliance with the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Management System (HSWMS)
🔍 Detect Hazards and Risks Before They Happen:
- Conduct audits, inspections, and emergency preparedness activities, always keeping the Principal informed and aligned
- Review data in the department's HSW system to spot trends and risks, then provide advice on action to take with effective solutions
💪 Support Your School team and roll up your sleeves:
- Be a key support for staff dealing with illness or injury—coordinate early intervention, rehabilitation, and return-to-work processes
- Help manage occupational violence and aggression incidents with calm expertise, to ensure incidents are reported accurately and processes for responding to ill or injured staff are in place and applied
🎓 Inspire and Empower:
- Lead training sessions, inductions, and awareness activities to build a culture of safety and wellbeing, in line with the Principal's vision for the school
- Be the spark that ignites a movement for positive change in our schools
🚨Staying Grounded when it Matters Most:
- Be a key contact for the leadership team during critical incidents, coordinating required health and safety responses and reporting with confidence and care, under the direction of the Principal
- Provide advice, support and compliance oversight in building fire safety, and fulfil Fire Safety Advisor responsibilities as required
