Are you an experienced finance professional with a desire for accuracy, leadership, and strategic financial management? Do you want to play a key role in supporting governance and accountability within one of Queensland's most prestigious public institutions?
Queensland Parliamentary Service is seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to lead and manage the delivery of professional financial accounting services within the Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) unit. This is a unique opportunity to combine technical expertise with leadership in a dynamic, high-profile environment.
Key Objectives
- Lead and coordinate a team of finance officers to deliver effective financial accounting services.
- Manage statutory financial reporting requirements, including preparation of financial statements in accordance with legislation and accounting standards.
- Oversee corporate taxation systems and reporting to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
- Develop and monitor internal control systems, policies, and processes to support robust financial management.
- Liaise with external and internal auditors and the Audit Management Committee to deliver agreed actions.
Your Role
- Oversee financial and asset accounting operations to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Manage taxation affairs, including preparation and lodgement of FBT and GST returns, compliance activities, and policy maintenance.
- Prepare financial statements in line with Accounting Standards and Queensland Treasury guidelines.
- Develop and maintain financial accounting policies and procedures, including the Financial Management Practice Manual.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and professional development for the FAS Accounting team.
- Coordinate audit reviews and implement approved improvements to financial management system.
What We're Looking For
- Advanced knowledge of accounting standards, financial legislation, and contemporary financial management practices.
- Demonstrated experience in statutory reporting and corporate taxation compliance.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams.
- Proficiency in financial management information systems and data analysis tools.
- Highly developed communication and consultation skills.
Qualifications: A degree in accounting or commerce is highly desirable; postgraduate qualifications and CA/CPA/IPA membership are also highly regarded.
