Public Health Officer - Advanced

Communicable Diseases Branch are looking for a Public Health Officer – Advanced to join the Blood Borne Viruses and Sexually Transmissible Infections Unit. In this role you will provide leadership, authoritative advice and expert direction for the development, implementation and monitoring of national and state funded BBV/STI policies and programs. You will support the Assistant Director, Policy, Programs and Planning to lead and oversee strategic policy, planning and delivery of complex and/or innovative BBV/STI interventions and work collaboratively and proactively with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver on strategic commitments and support best practice local implementation of policies and programs.

What you'll do

  • Provide high-level expertise in the application of evidence, theory, and judgement in planning, implementing, and evaluating blood borne viruses and sexually transmissible infections (BBV/STIs) policy and interventions in a range of settings with a focus on HIV. 
  • Provide high-level authoritative advice to senior management, partners, and other stakeholders including representing Queensland Health in state and national forums and working groups, to influence strategic policy and delivery of complex and/or innovative BBV/STI interventions with a focus on HIV. 
  • Demonstrate competencies and qualities of a successful supervisor and leader in managing change, building team capacity and capability, improving performance, and enhancing the quality of the work environment for a sub-speciality program team.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of a suite of system responses to position Queensland Health to respond to the increasing burden of BBV/STIs more effectively in the community.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

  • At least a tertiary degree qualification in Public Health or Health Promotion from a recognised institution. 
  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of the contemporary healthcare environment and the ability to apply a high level of knowledge, expertise, and skills to address BBV/STI issues in this environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide specialised level of knowledge, analysis, expertise, and skills to the development of systemic and effective statewide solutions to complex BBV/STI policy challenges with a focus on HIV. 
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal, communication, consultation and negotiation skills and ability to foster positive team environments and high functioning stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic change through shaping policy reforms, driving innovation and enabling quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated flexibility in approach to work and working environment and willingness to participate in cross program initiatives.
