The Prevention Strategy Branch of the Population Health Division are looking for a Senior Health Promotion Officer to join their team. In this position you will lead and contribute to components of the planning, developing, implementation and evaluation of complex statewide preventive health initiatives to improve the health and wellbeing of Queensland girls and women, in line with departmental, state, and national policy and planning directions. More specifically, the role will support a trial of health education in upper primary school about puberty, menstruation, health and wellbeing.

What you'll do
- Facilitate, coordinate, and manage the co-design, development and implementation of preventive health initiatives targeting priority population groups in Queensland, in partnership with key stakeholders, including effective evaluation.
- Prepare and provide high-level advice in the application of evidence, theory, and judgement in planning, implementing, and evaluating preventive health policy and interventions in a range of settings and for priority population groups.
- Identify, analyse, and convey complex ideas and information to a range of stakeholders in relation to preventive health policy and reform.
- Work closely with key stakeholders to support a whole-of-system approach to preventive health and ensure the appropriate delivery of preventive health interventions in priority settings and reaching high-risk population groups.
- Contribute to preventive health and equity research and evaluation for high-risk population groups in priority settings and ensure findings are shared to build the evidence base.
- Effectively represent the Branch and the Department on key committees and at relevant regional and state forums as required.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- At least a tertiary degree in Health Promotion or Public Health. Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of duties.
- Demonstrated high level ability to critically analyse information and data and provide evidence-based advice to colleagues, senior management, and other stakeholders on a range of preventive health issues, including for priority population groups and particularly in the context of women and girls health.
- Demonstrated high level planning and project management skills including experience in the coordination, development implementation and evaluation of statewide preventive health interventions or initiatives, including for priority population groups and particularly in the context of women and girls health.
- Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to work as part of a high performing team, communicate confidently and persuasively to a range of internal and external audiences, and undertake effective negotiation and consultation processes.
- Highly motivated with a demonstrated flexibility in approach to work and the working environment and willingness to participate in initiatives to address priority issues as required by management.
