The Prevention Strategy Branch of the Population Health Division are looking for an Advanced Health Promotion Officer– Project Coordinator to join their team. You will provide advanced strategic and operational leadership, advice and analysis for the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of complex preventive health policy and strategy at a state level focused on improving the health and wellbeing of Queensland women and girls. More specifically, the role will lead a trial of health education in upper primary school about puberty, menstruation, health and wellbeing.

What you'll do

  • Provide high-level expertise in the application of evidence, theory and judgement in planning, implementing and evaluating population health promotion policy and interventions in a range of settings.
  • Use advanced public health knowledge, skills, risk-based decision making and operational field-based experience to lead the strategic planning and operational management of a suite of system reforms to position Queensland Health to respond to the Women and Girls' Health Strategy more effectively, for consideration by the Queensland Government.
  • Provide high-level expertise and leadership for the processes of strategy development, policy development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Strategically monitor and report on health promotion initiatives, objectives and strategies based on the analysis of data and ensure findings are shared to build the evidence base and improve health promotion policy, practice and planning.
  • Lead a positive workplace culture and environment supporting quality human resource management practices, working collaboratively with colleagues and service partners and ensuring efficient and effective performance and development of team staff.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

  • At least a tertiary degree in Health Promotion.  Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of duties.
  • Willingness to participate in a vetting process and ability to gain a national security clearance. 
  • Demonstrated expertise and skills in establishing and fostering a collaborative small to medium team with experience in effectively managing team performance to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated track record to the application of specialised level of knowledge, analysis, expertise and skills to the development of systemic and effective solutions to complex health promotion policy, particularly in the context of women and girls' health.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead and manage state-wide strategy development, implementation and monitoring through effective communication, consultation and negotiation skills and through shaping program reforms, driving innovation and enabling quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders that contribute to improved health and wellbeing for Queenslanders.
  • Demonstrated track record of flexibility in approach to work and working environment and willingness to participate in cross program initiatives and a change agenda.
