The Role

The Events Manager leads the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art Events Team, managing three direct reports to drive commercial revenue through external catered events while overseeing and balancing the delivery of internal catered events.

Reporting to the Head of F&B Services and Events, this role plays a key part in financial oversight, ensuring revenue targets are met, tracking performance, and providing insights to support strategic decision-making. The Events Manager is also responsible for identifying and managing risks, refining department processes, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, service delivery, and compliance.

Collaboration is essential, with the Events Manager working closely with the Food & Beverage (F&B) department, internal stakeholders, external clients, suppliers, and industry partners to maintain high service standards and secure new business opportunities.

This role requires flexibility, with some work outside of standard business hours to support event execution.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and develop the QAGOMA Events Team, managing three direct reports to ensure successful commercial and internal events.

  • Drive commercial revenue through external catered events while balancing internal event needs.
  • Oversee financial reporting and budget management, ensuring targets are met and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Provide key performance insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Identify and manage risks related to commercial revenue and event operations, ensuring compliance with Gallery policies.
  • Improve department processes to enhance efficiency, compliance, and service delivery.
  • Work with Marketing and Digital teams to develop event marketing strategies supporting business development.
  • Lead key projects and initiatives, including Gallery opening events, procurement, supplier relations, and asset management.

 About You

 We're seeking a results-driven catered events professional with:

 Experience leading an events team within a venue-based F&B department, with strong mentoring and development skills.

  • Proven success in managing commercial event operations and sales, achieving revenue targets, and optimising financial performance.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, fostering productive internal and external relationships.
  • Financial acumen, including budget oversight, financial reporting, and performance analysis.
  • A proactive approach to risk management and problem-solving, ensuring smooth event execution.

Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance multiple priorities.
