QAGOMA is seeking a motivated and experienced Registrar to join our team!

The Registrar, Collection is part of the Gallery's Registration department that includes the specialist areas of exhibitions registration and collection management.

The purpose of this role is to coordinate and execute collection-based registration activities and logistics in the specialist areas of acquisitions, collection loans, collection exhibitions, and storage.

As the Registrar, Collection, you will:

  • Plan, coordinate, undertake and manage programming and staff in the specialist areas of Acquisitions and Loans, and Collection Storage. Supervise team members to ensure successful and timely completion of projects in the business areas of,
    • New acquisitions
    • Outgoing collection loans
    • Government loans
    • Collection storage
    • Collection exhibitions
  • Apply knowledge of legislation and regulations governing the physical risk, legal and procedural requirements for the import and export of cultural objects, and/or escalate significant issues or barriers to the Registration Manager. This includes Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage Act (1986) and Regulations (2018/2021); Protection of Cultural Objects on Loan Act (2013) and Regulations (2014); Known Consignor Scheme and other Australian Quarantine and Inspection Services regulations; Australian BioSecurity regulations; CITES permit system; and other relevant national and international obligations.
  • Implement workflows and programs to meet acquisitions, collection loans, collection exhibitions, and collection storage needs, assign responsibilities, delegate tasks effectively, and guide and mentor team members to build capacity and ensure ongoing skill development.
  • Oversee fiscal tasks such as budget tracking, vendor creation, account management, and accounts payable using a range of software systems such as Microsoft Excel, eftSure, Converga and Promaster.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with donors, lenders, insurance brokers, international and national customs agents, couriers and other stakeholders to ensure the safe and efficient transfer of works of art to and from the Gallery.
  • Support the Registration Manager as required on a range of registration activities and endeavors through supervision, mentoring, guidance, and support to staff undertaking work across multiple and concurrent projects.
  • Work with Gallery teams on a range of activities and endeavors requiring collection management involvement, and provide specialised advice and recommendations to the Registration Manager on issues regarding strategic collection logistics.
  • Provide technical input for the development and review of policy, procedure and strategies to manage registration collection logistics.
