The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) is looking for a passionate person to join the Public Engagement team as a Public Programs Project Officer (Indigenous Identified).

This role contributes to the research, development, and delivery of public facing programs and events, including coordinating the Gallery's First Nations Art tours.

You will work with diverse audiences, support collaborative projects across Gallery teams, and help to broaden visitor engagement with the Gallery's exhibitions and Collection.

The position is available for commencement in January 2026, and is an 12-month contract with the potential for extension.

Public Engagement at QAGOMA
The Public Programs team sits within the Public Engagement department. They deliver engaging, innovative and accessible public facing programs and events for audiences of all ages, including festivals, discussions, performances and workshops.

About this position
This position contributes to the research, development and facilitation of public programs at the Gallery, supporting a diverse range of events, not limited only to First Nations initiatives.

Key duties

  • Coordinate the Gallery's First Nations Art tours by conducting community consultation, undertaking focused research, and developing compelling tour scripts that incorporate feedback from the curatorial team and other Gallery staff.
  • Present the First Nations Art tours in an engaging and professional manner. Where needed, you will support casual First Nations tour guides.
  • In collaboration with the Public Programs team, contribute to the research, development and facilitation of innovative onsite and virtual public programs that enhance access to the Gallery exhibitions and Collection.
  • Undertake administrative tasks to support the successful delivery of programs, including maintaining accurate records and using software for data, spreadsheet, email, project and customer relationship management.
  • Communicate and interact with the Gallery's audiences and program stakeholders including diverse communities, artists, scholars and professionals.
  • With support from the Senior Programming Officer, research and create ways to attract and engage new and diverse audiences.
  • Contribute to project teams across the Gallery to build and foster collaborative working relationships.

  • This role involves working outside of core business hours, including on weekends and after-hours for the facilitation of public programs, with time off in lieu offered.
