Key outcomes/Accountabilities

The aim of this role is to:

  • Support the Director, Legal Services through providing highly complex and specialised expert advice. 
  • Provide high level expert specialist legal advice to the Commissioner, the Director Legal Services, the General Counsel, the QBCC's Executive Leadership Team and staff by researching issues or reviewing legislation and policies and offering appropriate strategies and actions by adapting precedents and making significant departures from traditional approaches.
  • Analyse, monitor, report and provide recommendations on trends and issues arising from legal file reviews, suggesting recommendations for resolution through determining problems, and providing/organising associated training to the team and the organisation.
  • Contributing to the professional development of others including, providing clear guidance, constructive feedback and mentoring.
  • Develop and maintain communication strategies with a view to building professional relationships and creating working partnerships with internal and external service providers and clients.
  • Provide high level leadership ensuring the day to day delivery of quality work by the legal team in accordance with KPIS.
  • Develop systems, processes and guidelines to facilitate training both for the lawyers in the team and the business as a whole.
  • Provide high level strategic advice and briefings to a broad range of audiences, communicating effectively with both external stakeholders and also clients with complex needs.

Provide technical input and guidance with complex administrative review proceedings in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, judicial review and other proceedings in the Supreme Court, and appellant proceedings in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.

Candidate attributes 

  • Admitted or eligible for admission as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
  • Holder of a current practicing certificate issued by the Queensland Law Society or able to obtain one. 
  • Fully compliant with all CPD requirements of the Queensland Law Society.
  1. Proven ability to conduct complex litigation including appearing as an advocate in tribunals or courts and ability to apply contemporary legal principles and practices, as they relate to administrative review proceedings and contract law or prosecution and disciplinary action.
  2. Validate their ability to communicate effectively including the ability to apply negotiation and mediation skills.
  3. Exhibit their ability to work effectively in a team and achieve performance measures, with proven ability in a mentoring and supervisory role with demonstrated previous experience in a similar role.
  4. Attest their experience in being customer and solutions focused, including an ability to deliver high quality legal services in a professional way.
