Key outcomes/Accountabilities  

The aim of this role is to: 

  • Develop, document, implement, maintain and report on QBCC WHS including developing and coordinating projects to improve policies, procedures, accountabilities, responsibilities, objectives, targets, training, hazard identification, risk management, system measurement, evaluation, auditing, system review, incident reporting, workplace rehabilitation, emergency management and investigation.
  • Lead, direct and be the business expert in Workplace Health & Safety (WHS). Analyses workplace injury statistics, risk management, and causation data to develop processes that eradicate injury from the work place.
  • Manage workplace incident investigation processes in a timely manner. Facilitate staff rehabilitation and return to work processes within QBCC.
  • Manage Workers Compensation and Injury Management processes in conjunction with HR Manager.
  • Implement initiatives and frameworks that continue to promote health and wellbeing. Drive cultural change across the organisation to improve safety and wellbeing.
  • Report on the performance of QBCC WHSMS to the Chief Human Resource Officer, Senior Leadership Team and the QBC Board. Lead and chair the QBCC WHS Committee.
  • Maintain a hazardous materials safety management system across QBCC.
  • Identify, develop and deliver WHS specific training programs to QBCC personnel.
  • Provide high-level advice to executive and management on issues involving health, safety and wellness.
  • Interpret, apply and provide advice on the provisions of the Workplace Health and Safety Act, associated regulations and other WH&S related legislation, AS/NZ Standards and Codes of Practice across a diverse range of activities.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding contemporary WHS practices and risk management protocols.
