The role
The Senior Health and Medical Physicist participates in the administration of the Radiation Safety Act 1999, in particular to monitor and enforce compliance with the Act in the areas of public and private-sector health, mining and manufacturing industries, teaching and research, and the environment.
The role is also responsible for measuring and assessing exposures to ionising and non-ionising radiation and providing associated health and medical physics related scientific services and advice.
Additionally, the position promotes the radiation safety and protection of persons and the environment, and the security of radioactive substances.

The successful person
You will have demonstrated:
- high level knowledge, expertise and skills in health and medical physics or a radiation related science OR as a general specialist in one or more of the medical, industrial, environmental or regulatory compliance specialty areas, and the ability to independently assess radiation health and safety in established radiation practice types.
- ability to provide high level scientific advice to a range of audiences, including solving non-routine matters where established principles, procedures and methods require some expansion, adaptation or modification, and developing service improvement initiatives.
- ability to independently implement and manage bodies of work such as investigations and research projects, to critically analyse data, communicate confidently to a range of audiences and undertake effective consultation processes.
