Senior Medical Officer (Rural Generalist / Provisional Fellow)

You will provide a comprehensive range of anaesthetic services, including general and regional anaesthesia, as well as obstetric care such as epidural and spinal anaesthesia.

Our clinical services are unified across the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service, spanning multiple locations. To meet the needs of the service, you may be required to deliver clinical care at any facility within the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service, in accordance with the clinical capabilities of that facility.

About us:

The Rockhampton Hospital Anaesthesia team provides exceptional care across a range of specialties, including obstetrics, gynaecology, orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat), ophthalmology, gastroenterology, and dental procedures. The team also operates a preadmission clinic, conducts acute pain rounds, and offers sedation for medical procedures.

The Department is accredited for specialist training and actively engages in teaching and research. It supports four Queensland Anaesthesia Rotational Training Scheme trainees, one College of Intensive Care Medicine trainee, one Rural Generalist trainee, two Principal House Officers, two Junior House Officers, and one Acute Pain Service Nurse.

About the role:

  • Competence and capability in primary rural medical practice (particularly hospital-based practice) and in Anaesthesia.
  • Developed leadership skills and experience in contributing as a team member in a multidisciplinary approach to service provision.
  • High level oral and written skills including ability to prepare comprehensive and concise documentation of all clinical observations, opinions, diagnoses, other data and procedures undertaken.

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Specialist qualification in General Practice - Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM)
  • Advanced Specialist Training in Anaesthesia - Joint Consultative Committee on Anaesthesia (JCCA) is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
  • Enrolment and maintenance of ongoing Continuing Medical Education (CME) program with the appropriate bodies is mandatory.

Total remuneration value of up to $446,662 p.a. is comprised of:

  • $182,106 - $187,801 p.a. (L13 – L14)
  • $182,106 - $210,332 p.a. (L13 – L18)
  • $210,332 - $251,527 p.a. (L18 – L25)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
