The Senior Registrar (Advanced Trainee in Pain Medicine) will provide the highest standard of evidence-based care of patients referred to the Sunshine Coast Persistent Pain Management Service (SCPPMS), under consultant supervision, while training in the principles and practice of acute, chronic and cancer pain management. The Senior Registrar (Advanced Trainee in Pain Medicine) will provide the highest standard of evidence-based care of patients referred to the Sunshine Coast Persistent Pain Management Service (SCPPMS), under consultant supervision, while training in the principles and practice of acute, chronic and cancer pain management. 

Training will include assessment of patients with pain, formulation of management plans, consultation, and communication about pain-related issues, working in team-based rehabilitation and allied health pain management programs, and development of skills in interventional pain techniques. Trainees will be expected to be registered for training and examination by the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian and New Zealand College for Anaesthetists.

Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to practice as a Specialist in one of the recognised prerequisite specialties for Pain Medicine training is required.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide assessment of hospital inpatients with subacute and persistent pain issues referred to the SCPPMS, under supervision of the consultant.
  • Assist with the triage of patients referred to the SCPPMS. Provide an initial telephone advisory service for external referring doctors and domiciliary nurses.
  • Provide ethical, clinical, and academic leadership, to ensure that the highest standard of evidence-based clinical practice and policy awareness is integrated into patient care.
  • With consultant supervision, develop, implement, and evaluate a management plan within a multidisciplinary setting, for outpatients and inpatients with chronic pain, including inpatients under the care of SCPPMS consultants in Pain Medicine.

Salary rates: $6,334.30 – $6,980.10 p.f., employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (L10 - L13) (Fixed Term Temporary Full-time up to 12 months, 76 hrs p.f. Applications will remain current for the duration of the vacancy.
