An exciting opportunity exists for a Clinical Nurse. The Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Birtinya and Nambour General Hospital Emergency Department Mental Health team provide 24-hour access to specialist mental health and addiction expertise. The Clinical Nurse provides specialist intake assessment, consultation, education and support to Emergency Department staff when making decisions regarding interventions and management of mental health consumers.

Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS) is in southeast Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south and Gympie in the north.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Practice in accordance with code of ethics, professional standards and legislation affecting nursing practice by maintaining current knowledge and competence within scope of position.
  • The team is based in the Emergency Department at Nambour General Hospital and Sunshine Coast University Hospital and provides triage-intake and assessments of people referred for a mental health consult within the Emergency Departments. The team may also provide after business hours mental health consultation to the Emergency Department of Gympie and Maleny Hospitals
  • Identify and facilitate suitable referrals to the Crisis Support Space.
  • To provide short term clinical support in the Crisis Support Space and offer a range of integrated therapeutic, rehabilitation, recovery-focused and brief interventions to reduce the severity of symptoms and increase resilience to cope with mental health alcohol and other drug issues (MHAOD) issues.

Remuneration value up to $118 710 p.a., comprising salary rates $54.44 - $58.30 p.h., employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (Nurse Grade 6 (1)) (part time position, 68.4 hrs p.f.).
