Step Into Your Next Chapter:
Cleaners play a crucial role in supporting student learning, safety, and dignity — they are essential members of the school community.
Responsibilities include:
- Clean and maintain assigned school areas to a high standard, ensuring classrooms, amenities, and shared spaces are safe, hygienic, and ready for students each day.
- Follow established cleaning schedules, checklists, and routines — including morning readiness tasks and afternoon reset tasks.
- Perform tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, wiping surfaces, emptying bins, cleaning amenities, spot cleaning walls/doors, and replenishing supplies.
- Maintain cleaning equipment safely and report any faults, hazards, or maintenance issues promptly.
- Support whole-school hygiene standards by following infection control practices and using appropriate PPE and chemicals correctly.
- Work efficiently within the allocated timeframes, prioritising tasks that support learning environments (e.g., classrooms before admin/non-teaching areas).
- Contribute to a safe school environment by reporting concerns and adhering to all WHS and departmental procedures.
- Communicate respectfully with colleagues and leadership, and work collaboratively as part of a large cleaning team.

Must-Have Skills & Experience:
- Proven reliability — consistently attends rostered shifts and completes tasks to required standards.
- Experience in commercial or school cleaning, or the ability to quickly learn cleaning routines and expectations.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining safe, hygienic student spaces.
- Ability to follow schedules, work independently, and stay productive without supervision.
- Understanding of basic workplace health and safety practices, including safe chemical handling (training provided if needed).
- Good communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude.
- Physically capable of performing repetitive tasks, lifting, bending, and being on feet for extended periods.
Nice-to-Have Skills & Experience:
- Previous school cleaning experience or experience in a special school environment.
- Knowledge of Education Queensland cleaning standards or similar public-sector cleaning frameworks.
- Experience with infection control procedures, biohazard cleaning, or supporting high-needs environments.
- Confidence using QR codes, basic digital checklists, or simple reporting apps (you can tailor depending on what you're implementing).
- First aid, CPR, or other relevant training.
- A proactive approach — someone who notices issues and raises them early.
