The Head of Department Student Engagement also collaborates with other schools in the Northern Gold Coast 'Northern Collegiate' network.

Working closely with the Principal and Executive Leadership Team, the successful candidate will establish a strong and sustainable foundation that benefits Coombabah State High School's students, staff, and wider community. This role demands flexibility, independence, and relational leadership, underpinned by effective change management and clear communication.

The HOD – Student Behaviour and Engagement will work in close partnership with Deputy Principals to ensure student wellbeing and learning success for all students. This includes implementing policies and practices that promote safe, respectful behaviours and productive learning environments. Strong communication with parents and caregivers will be essential to maintain positive partnerships.

Operating primarily within a behaviour management and engagement context, the HOD may also assist with other subject or administrative responsibilities as required, always upholding the school's DRIVE values in every action and decision.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative measures aimed at improving student learning outcomes and attendance in schools where a significant percentage of students may have a disadvantaged background, ensuring quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Where requested, prepare all data returns for senior management.
  • Monitor students' individual performance and behaviour and develop and implement intervention strategies where necessary.
  • Communicate and work with parents, higher education institutes and State Schools Division to improve learning outcomes, student achievements and attendance.
