Lead the stewardship of Queensland's documentary heritage and shape the future of access to knowledge, research and cultural memory across the state.
As Executive Director, Content and a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will set strategic direction for State Library's collections and content services, driving innovation in digital collecting, discovery and access.
You will provide high-level advice to the State Librarian and CEO, and the Library Board, influence sector leadership, and build partnerships across government, the GLAM sector and research communities.
This is a pivotal enterprise leadership role focused on sustainable collection management, cultural stewardship and ensuring Queensland's diverse stories are preserved and accessible for current and future generations.

State Library of Queensland is seeking an accomplished executive to lead the Content portfolio and steward Queensland's documentary heritage for current and future generations.
As Executive Director, Content, you will provide enterprise leadership of collections, reference and research services, and digital initiatives that enable discovery, access and impact. Reporting to the State Librarian and CEO, and as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will shape organisational strategy, culture and performance while positioning State Library as a national leader in collections practice and cultural stewardship.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading the stewardship, development and accessibility of State Library's collections and content services aligned to strategic priorities.
• Providing strategic and fiscally responsible advice to the State Librarian and CEO, and to the Library Board on collection management, preservation and access.
• Driving innovation in digital collecting, discovery and access to increase reach, relevance and impact.
• Contributing as an enterprise executive to organisational strategy, performance, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Building strong partnerships across government, cultural institutions, the GLAM sector and research communities.
• Ensuring sustainable stewardship of the State Collection through strong governance, financial management and collaboration.
• Strengthening organisational cultural capability through inclusive leadership and people practices that promote diversity, equity and respect.
About the portfolio
The Content portfolio manages State Library's collections from acquisition through to delivery, providing physical and digital access to knowledge, stories and research. The portfolio captures and preserves Queensland's documentary heritage, including through the John Oxley Library, and supports research, learning and the creation of new knowledge through specialist expertise.
What success looks like
You will establish a contemporary strategy for development and stewardship of the State Collection, strengthen digital discovery and accessibility, build influential partnerships, and ensure the collection reflects the diversity of Queensland communities and embeds First Nations cultural authority and perspectives.
About you
You are an experienced executive leader with demonstrated capability in complex environments and a strong track record delivering strategic outcomes. You bring sound governance, financial and commercial acumen, and experience leading high-performing teams through change and transformation. Executive leadership experience in a comparable public, cultural, research, GLAM, or not-for-profit environment will be highly regarded.
