About the Role
- Advocate on behalf of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and attend to their needs by providing comfort and support, through the provision of culturally appropriate and clinically relevant advice and liaison services, during acute in-patient admissions.
- Support clinicians in communicating treatment plans, discharge planning and clinical information to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families, utilising a culturally appropriate and evidence-based framework.
- Support increasing Cultural Capability of Clinicians and Staff through the provision of on-going education and training in the cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, appropriate communication strategies and the importance of establishing rapport with the patients.
- Provide expert culturally specific knowledge and liaison services to clinicians, staff, service providers and local communities in order to foster a collaborative based partnership approach in developing and implementing strategies targeted at meeting the social, emotional and well-being needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Actively contribute to maintaining a safe workplace that values the health and safety of co-workers, clients or visitors.
