General Manager, Queensland Operations

An exciting opportunity has become available to backfill the position of General Manager, QLD Operations, for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of an extension while the incumbent performs higher duties.Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will be responsible for leading industry engagements across sectors aligned to QLD government priorities, client engagement and a regional network of trade and investment officers. You will also be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective administration and operation of the Division for the delivery of client-centred outcomes in accordance with the TIQ Strategic Plan and the Board's priorities. The role has a key responsibility in managing key stakeholder partnerships including government agencies, the Local Government Association of Queensland, regional councils and industry associations.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Provide the highest level of strategic advice, information and guidance to Government, the Board and the Chief Executive officer on critical developments and emerging opportunities.
  • Provide strategic leadership and influence to align policy platforms and programs at a whole-of-government level to support new and renewed investment, capability development and innovation.
  • Oversee the ongoing and strategic review of policies and programs and develop reform agendas that deliver improved results for government, industry and communities.
  • Establish and maintain highly effective communication strategies and protocols and stakeholder negotiation and liaison activities across government and with other private and public sector stakeholder organisations.
  • Foster strong and effective relationships and negotiate extensively with local, state and federal agencies, industry and with key stakeholders to build commitment to long term growth.
  • Manage a Division that is customer driven, providing first class advice, direction and services related to export and investment attraction.
  • Maintain performance across teams against KPIs aimed at demonstrating that TIQ adds value to companies at critical junctures during their export or investment endeavours.
  • Provide leadership and accountability over specific initiatives under the Queensland Trade and Investment Strategy 2017-2022.
  • Drive the delivery of services that meet the Government's priorities including the Advance Queensland Strategy within budget allocation, meeting service standards and continuing to identify innovative efficiencies and opportunities
  • Provide strong, motivational executive leadership to the agency, including fostering a professional environment which elicits commitment, ethical behaviour, skills development and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate relevant senior or executive management in the commercial sector, and/or a government organisation with significant trade and investment operations in an international environment or related functions.
  • Have management, commerce or leadership qualifications, ideally at post-graduate level, with strong business and commercial acumen, and international trading and investment knowledge and experience.
  • Have excellent presentation, interpersonal and English language communication skills (written and verbal) with an ability to build and sustain business relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholder, domestically and internationally.
