Registrar or Principal House Officer - Vascular Surgery (Clinical and Research)

An exciting opportunity is currently available with our health service for a part-time clinical and part-time university appointment as a PHO and research fellow in vascular surgery. The appointee is expected to contribute to clinical sessions (out-patients, theatre, digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and in-patient management) approximately 50% of the time and academic activities (research, teaching, audit) 50% of the time.

What's on offer?
  • Generous remuneration package of up to $190,060 p.a.
  • Base salary range of $110,712 - $128,362 p.a. (Registrar L4-L9)
  • Base salary range of $110,712 - $121,941 p.a. (PHO L4-L7)
  • Recreational leave loading 17.5%
  • Employer contribution to superannuation of 12.75%
  • Vocational Training Allowance (if accepted into recognised vocational college training program)
  • Temporary full time position for 12 months, commencing 03/02/2020
Mandatory requirements are proof of qualification and registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner. If not accepted into a recognised vocational college training program, the appointment will be at the PHO range of L4-L7.

About the role:
  • Conduct vascular research undertaking a systematic review on a vascular topic.
  • Formulate and compile a research plan/proposal for review by supervisor.
  • Participate in the teaching of James Cook University medical students.
  • Ensure and review the quality of patient care by participation in clinical audits and quality programs.
  • Participate in the provision of an on-call roster or a shift roster to provide services out of hours, at night and on weekends.

The unit offers:

  • Well established easy access to digital subtraction angiography where currently approximately 500 procedures per year are performed by the department;
  • Open operating lists;
  • Regular out-patient sessions
  • An established vascular in-patient ward and access to ICU;
  • A vascular laboratory with resident sonographers and established duplex imaging;
  • Easy access to a radiology department with CT and MRI imaging;
  • Out-reach services to Mackay.

The unit is currently staffed by two staff specialists and a part-time academic vascular specialist, three full-time registrars, this post and two RMOs. The unit has established open and endovascular lists and currently undertakes over 700 procedures each year. Common procedures including lower limb revascularisation by endovascular, open and combined procedures; endovascular aneurysm repair; carotid endarterectomy; open aortic surgery; AV fistula creation and maintenance; other vascular access procedures for oncology and renal purposes; venous surgery; and diabetic foot procedures.
