The Townsville Hospital and Health Service is the largest tertiary health service in northern Australia; we are responsible for the delivery of advanced, highly specialised, tertiary-level healthcare at the main hospital, covering the continuum of care to secondary and primary-level hospital and community healthcare services across 20 facilities.

This position is ideally suited for an Advanced Trainee in the Renal Department. The primary function of the position is to provide high quality clinical care to patients of The Townsville Hospital.

The role:

  • Under the supervision of the relevant consultants, initiate, maintain and be responsible for the clinical care of patients
  • Liaise with the on-call medical registrar when acute renal patients are admitted to the Emergency Department via ambulance, ensuring that patients in the Emergency Department are seen within the required timeframes
  • Assessment and management of in and outpatients. Understanding of utility and requirements of multidisciplinary work, liaising with the rest of team in arranging complex discharges.
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of junior medical staff to ensure that appropriate standards of care are maintained and that junior medical staff are trained to adequately fulfil their duties. Manage the performance appraisal and development of subordinate staff.
  • Undertake theoretical and practical training in the discipline of Renal Medicine

The Medical Officer will provide supervision of junior medical staff, including some responsibility for providing teaching to junior medical staff and medical students. Comprehensive post graduate training programme is conducted at The Townsville Hospital.

Generous remuneration package comprising salary range of $4243.60 to $4920.10 p.f. (L4-L9), 17.5% leave loading, 12.75 % employer contribution to superannuation.
