The Townsville Hospital and Health Service is the largest tertiary health service in northern Australia; we are responsible for the delivery of healthcare services, education and research within a region covering over 149,500km with a population of approximately 250,000 people.

The Neonatal Unit has 22 NICU and 28 Special Care Nursery (SCN) cots and coordinates the Neonatal Retrieval/Transport Service for the North Queensland area. The unit provides the only tertiary neonatal service outside of Brisbane.

About your opportunity
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides tertiary care and specific specialist services for newborn babies requiring tertiary care. Babies cared for are those born prematurely, those who require surgery, have congenital anomalies or sick infants that require neonatal intensive care.

The Nurse Educator is a Registered Nurse who is accountable at an advanced practice position and demonstrates a specialised skill set and specialist knowledge.

The Neonatal Nurse Educator will be responsible for the design, delivery, implementation and assessment of nursing education programs, managing educational resources and providing neonatal nursing expertise related to educational issues within the Neonatal Unit and Townsville Hospital and Health Service. The Nurse Educator leads and supports a culture of development and enquiry which actively encourages and facilitates clinical, professional and organisational learning within a Supported Practice Framework.

To be successful for this role, you will have;

  • Bachelor of Nursing qualification + current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Highly desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
  • 'C' class motor vehicle licence.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and reasoning, advanced problem-solving skills and expert clinical judgement.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of contemporary neonatal nursing practice and theory.
  • Advanced leadership, negotiation, conflict resolution and change management skills to ensure customer focused service provision amongst the multidisciplinary team.

Generous remuneration package value up to $144,228 p.a. comprising salary range of $116,092 to $126,037 p.a. (Nurse Grade 7), 17.5% leave loading, 12.75 % employer contribution to superannuation.
