The Townsville Hospital and Health Service provides tertiary services to 670,000 people throughout northern Queensland from Mackay to the Torres Strait and out to the Northern Territory border.

The Townsville University Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a level-six tertiary unit managing all specialties other than burns and transplants. All our medical and nursing staff have advanced qualifications in critical care, ensuring they are able to look after the sickest patients in our community.

The unit is a member of the State-Wide Intensive Care Network and its performance is measured against all the other level 6 units in the state.

The position will entail responsibility for supervision of junior medical staff including inpatient care and will include some responsibility for providing teaching to junior medical staff, medical students and allied health staff. Clinical supervision of the Transition Year trainee will be by the duty Staff Consultants.

A non-clinical portfolio to further develop professional skills is available in either Education, Echocardiography, or Research (roles approved by the College of Intensive Care Medicine).  Provision to attend study courses/conferences will be made.
