The Townsville Hospital and Health Service is the largest tertiary health service in northern Australia; we are responsible for the delivery of healthcare services, education and research within a region covering over 149,500km with a population of approximately 250,000 people.

The Adolescent Inpatient Unit is a purpose built 8 bed unit dedicated to the provision of mental health care to adolescents aged between 12 and 18 years of age and their families. The Unit is co-located with the Adolescent Day Services programme and has dedicated therapy and outdoor areas.

About your opportunity
The Clinical Nurse position is a leadership role within the multidisciplinary team for the Adolescent Inpatient Unit and Day Service. You will provide care for all young people which is safe, of the highest quality possible and in accordance with established professional standards including the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses Standards of Practice for Mental Health Nursing in Australia and the National Standards for Mental Health Services.

You will assess, identify, plan, develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate clinical care within primary nursing and case management frameworks for adolescents and their families who are admitted to the Adolescent Inpatient Unit or enrolled in the Day Services Program.

Role requirements:

  • Bachelor of Nursing qualification + current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Postgraduate qualifications relevant to the position or working towards a relevant qualification would be highly desirable.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an annual competency in Advanced Life Support.
  • Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster which includes participation in an on-call roster.
  • Credentialed status (or willingness to undertake and complete the requirements) with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses.
  • While not mandatory, eligibility for appointment as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) under the Mental Health Act 2016 would be well regarded.

Generous remuneration package value up to $115,848 p.a. comprising salary range of $94,545 to $101,237 p.a. (Nurse Grade 6, Band 1), 17.5% leave loading, 12.75 % employer contribution to superannuation.
