Salary: Comprising salary range of $179,703.00- $227,843.00 p.a. (Classification range L18-L27), recreational leave loading (17.5%), employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%), motor vehicle allowance, professional development assistance (allowances and leave), private practice, professional indemnity allowance  and locality allowance.

Level of appointment is dependent upon experience and advanced qualifications.

The Townsville Hospital and Health Service covers an area roughly two and a half times the size of France and provides complex, high level services across a wide range of specialities. There are 18 hospitals and community campuses and two aged care facilities and the main hospital is the only tertiary hospital in North Queensland. The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and High Dependency Unit (PHDU) at the Townsville University Hospital (TUH) consists of 5 beds (3 PICU, 2 PHDU – flexible, with max capacity for 6 ventilated patients) and expects over 300 cases per annum. It is accredited for Foundation and Elective Training by the College of Intensive Care Medicine and other colleges.


  • Provide comprehensive Paediatric Intensive Care services across a wide range of pathologies and patient age within the Department of PICU.
  • Manage the delivery of patient care in the area of Paediatric Intensive Care including management of complex clinical situations.
  • Role in supporting medical and nursing colleagues providing critical care to children in North Queensland including: advice, support and retrieval, coordination and clinical activity, to assist regional service providers in caring for children.
  • Lead education, research and training activities across your team(s), ensuring that these activities occur within the specialty and that staff are supported.

Other information - Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD)

Roles that have a direct contact with patients or who in the course of their work may be exposed to blood/body fluids or contaminated sharps are required to be immunised for Hepatitis B.

Roles that have contact that would allow acquisition and/or transmission of measles, mumps, rubella, varicella or pertussis, and have face to face contact with patients and/or work in a clinical area require evidence of immunisation of the aforementioned diseases.
