About the Townsville University Hospital

As the only tertiary referral centre in North Queensland, Townsville University Hospital treats patients from as far north as Cape York Peninsula and the Torres Strait Islands, and west to Mount Isa and the Gulf of Carpentaria. The opportunity

Provide optimal patient care as a Surgeon in accordance with the standard of the specialty and the ethics of the profession.

The role of the Specialist is to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to benefit the patients of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS). This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.

Lead and manage the provision of medical services in accordance with the standard of the speciality, the ethics of the profession and in accordance with the THHS and Queensland Health (QH) policies, in a hospital, community and outreach setting.

The hospital has an intensive care unit, radiology department with interventional capability, PET scanner, radiation oncology and the full range of Surgical and Medical specialty groups.

Mandatory requirements

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership (if applicable) with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropiate supervisor/manager prior to commencement of clinical duties.
  • All applicants must be awarded SoCP by the THHS Credentialing and SoCP committee.
  • Qualified as a medical practitioner with qualifications in Vascular Surgery and current registration and / or eligible for registration as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia in that field.

Generous salary range of $179,703 - $227,843 p.a. (L18-L27), recreational leave loading (17.5%), employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%), motor vehicle allowance, professional development assistance (allowances and leave), private practice, professional indemnity cover and inaccessibility allowance.

*Level of appointment is dependent upon experience and advanced qualifications*

Employees who are permanently appointed to Queensland Health may be required to undertake a period of probation appropriate to the appointment
