The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Townsville University Hospital is currently seeking an experienced Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist to join their team. There is scope for this position to include rotational secondment to Queensland Children’s Hospital (PICU), Brisbane, as negotiated on an individual basis.

The Townsville Hospital and Health Service is the largest tertiary health service in northern Australia; we are responsible for the delivery of healthcare services, education and research within a region covering over 149,500km with a population of approximately 250,000 people.

What's on offer?
Remuneration package of up to $476,037 p.a., comprising base salary range of $184,196 - $233,538 p.a. (L18-L27), recreational leave loading (17.5%), employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%), attraction and retention incentive allowance, regional and rural attraction allowance, motor vehicle allowance, professional development allowance, professional development leave (3.6 weeks p.a.), private practice arrangements, communications package, professional indemnity cover and inaccessibility allowance (if applicable). Level of appointment is dependent upon experience and advanced qualifications.

About the role

  • Provide comprehensive Paediatric Intensive Care services across a wide range of pathologies and patient age within the Department of PICU
  • Work within the team charter of Paediatric Intensive Care to build a collegiate team and supportive workplace
  • Provide support to the Director Paediatric Intensive Care in leading and participating in service development activities in respect of the PICU service within your realm of responsibility
  • Provide professional leadership in respect of the Paediatric Intensive Care Department activities and in particular your duty team of registrars and nurses
  • Manage the delivery of patient care in the area of Paediatric Intensive Care including management of complex clinical situations.

Requirements

  • Fellowship (or imminently expected) with the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM) or equivalent international specialist qualification.
  • Other qualifications from colleges that confer Specialist registration, (for example FANZCA, FACEM, FRACP), may be considered, provided the candidate is able to demonstrate sufficient experience at an advanced level of training in Paediatric Intensive Care, and is able to act independently in a Specialist capacity.
