Townsville Hospital and Health Service (HHS) offers Specialist Anaesthetists with a paediatric sub-speciality the opportunity to work in a vital and innovative department in tropical North Queensland. Anaesthetists here have the opportunity to deliver high quality anaesthetic and perioperative care to patients of the tertiary referral Townsville University Hospital, with a special focus on Paediatric and Neonatal Anaesthesia.

The Townsville (HHS) is the largest tertiary health service in northern Australia; we are responsible for the delivery of healthcare services, education and research within a region covering over 149,500km with a population of approximately 250,000 people.

What's on offer?
Fixed Term Temporary Full-time position for 12 months (with the possibility of extension).

Remuneration package of up to $476,037 p.a., comprising base salary range of $184,196 - $233,538 p.a. (L18-L27), recreational leave loading (17.5%), employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%), attraction and retention incentive allowance, regional and rural attraction allowance, motor vehicle allowance, professional development allowance, professional development leave (3.6 weeks p.a.), private practice arrangements, communications package, professional indemnity cover and inaccessibility allowance (if applicable). Level of appointment is dependent upon experience and advanced qualifications. Assistance with relocation expenses may also be available for this position.

About the role
The role requires the applicant to undertake a broad range of anaesthetic and perioperative practice and there are opportunities to develop special clinical interests across a wide range of specialties. Townsville Hospital Health Services delivers tertiary paediatric and neonatal surgery (including burns, urological, neurosurgery and general) and is supported by a sub-speciality anaesthetic group and separate paediatric and neonatal intensive care units.

The Specialist Anaesthetist will lead and manage the provision of medical services in accordance with the standards of the speciality, the ethics of the profession and in accordance with the Townsville HHS and Queensland Health policies in a hospital, community and outreach setting.  Research and teaching at under-graduate and post-graduate levels are encouraged.

Requirements

  • Qualified as a medical practitioner with specialist qualifications and registration, or eligible for registration, as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia in the appropriate discipline.
  • Fellowship of ANZCA with appropriate AHPRA registration.

It is a condition of employment for all prospective and existing health service employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, as per Health Employment Directive 12/21 and Queensland Health Human Resources Policy B70.
