About the role
The role of the Director of Anaesthetics is to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to benefit the patients / clients of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS). This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.

To provide for the optimal development of specialist expertise for Registrars and junior medical staff within the Department.

Lead and manage the provision of medical services in accordance with the standard of the speciality, the ethics of the profession and in accordance with the THHS and Queensland Health policies, in a hospital, community and outreach setting.

What's on offer?
Remuneration package of up to $486,763 p.a., comprising base salary range of $189,408 - $239,377 p.a. (Plus Clinical Mangers Allowance) (L18-L27), recreational leave loading (17.5%), employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%), attraction and retention incentive allowance, regional and rural attraction allowance, motor vehicle allowance, professional development allowance and leave (3.6 weeks p.a.), private practice arrangements, communications package, professional indemnity cover and inaccessibility allowance (if applicable). Assistance with relocation expenses may also be available for this position

Skills and experience

  • Expertise to perform duties efficiently and in a professional manner.
  • Ability to build good working relationships with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Capability and passion to lead and develop the service.
  • Provision of ethical decision making in the achievement of organisational goals.
  • The ability to develop the philosophy of and put into practice the continual improvement of all services received from and provided to patients and staff.
  • An intrinsic ability to both directly supervise and mentor junior medical staff.
  • A track record of Undergraduate and Post graduate teaching and ward supervision skills.

Role requirements

  • Qualified as a medical practitioner with specialist qualifications and registration, or eligible for registration, as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia in the appropriate discipline.
  • Fellowship of ANZCA with appropriate AHPRA registration.
