What's on offer?
Remuneration package of up to $486,763 p.a., comprising base salary range of $189,408 - $239,377 p.a. (L18-L27), recreational leave loading (17.5%), employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%), attraction and retention incentive allowance, regional and rural attraction allowance, motor vehicle allowance, professional development allowance and leave (3.6 weeks p.a.), private practice arrangements, communications package, professional indemnity cover and inaccessibility allowance (if applicable). Assistance with relocation expenses may also be available for this position.

About the role

  • Provide specialist anaesthetic, analgesic and related services for patients, including cardiac and thoracic surgery, undergoing elective and emergency procedures.
  • Undertake anaesthetic outpatient consultations, pre-operative assessments and other specialist services.
  • Manage the delivery of patient care in the speciality of anaesthetics including management of complex clinical cases.

Role requirements

  • Qualified as a medical practitioner with specialist qualifications and registration, or eligible for registration, as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia in the appropriate discipline.
  • Fellowship of ANZCA with appropriate AHPRA registration. Candidates who will be obtaining fellowship in the near future are encouraged to apply. Appointment will be at a lower classification level until minimum requirements for the Staff Specialist classification are obtained.

About the department
Townsville University Hospital (TUH) is the major referral hospital for North Queensland.  Most surgical specialties are provided including adult cardiac and thoracic surgery, paediatric surgery, neurosurgery, ENT, urology, vascular, plastics, subspecialty general (including hepato-biliary, colorectal and breast), and tertiary obstetrics and gynaecology.  The hospital has approximately 600 inpatient beds and takes referrals for its tertiary services from Rockhampton to Torres Strait and out to the Northern Territory border.  TUH is also the main teaching hospital for the James Cook University Medical School, which is located adjacent to the hospital.
