About the opportunity

Cleveland Youth Detention Medical Centre is part of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service and is located in the suburb of Belgian Gardens, approximately 10km from the Townsville University Hospital.

Our vision is to provide excellent healthcare to a vulnerable group of young people who are often disengaged with health services in the wider community.

We are looking for a passionate and driven Clinical Nurse to join our dedicated Health Services Team.   The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for delivering comprehensive, professional quality nursing services within a primary health model of care in a youth detention setting.  Nurses work 12-hour shifts across all days and nights of the week.

Our work can be fast paced, and your role could include emergency care, coordinating and delivering nurse-led clinics, health promotion activities, liaising with interdisciplinary teams, coordinating care, conducting heath assessments, and dispersing prescription and non-prescription medications as prescribed by policy, clinical standards, clinical guidelines and protocols, workplace instructions and the Youth Justice Act 1992.

Staff are subject to security and safety requirements of CYDC.  To enable the provision of Health Services to children in Queensland Youth Detention Centres a Memorandum of Understanding is in place between Queensland Health, Hospital and Health Services (HHS) and Department of Youth Justice, Employment, Small Business and Training (DYJESBT) and is represented by the Queensland Health, Nurse Unit Manager and DYJESBT Executive Director.
